Q: WHAT MAKES VICTORY CHRISTIAN CENTER UNIQUE?
A: If you're asking whether we think our church is better than all the rest, then the answer is no, we don't.  There are lots of great churches.  However, we do think Victory Christian Center serves a unique purpose here in Poquoson and South York County.  We attempt to show our community a living, active, powerful God who personally involves Himself in our daily lives.  God is not theoretical, philosophical, or abstract.  He is absolutely real, and we find our unique calling in presenting the reality of His love to others.

Q: WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Q: DO I HAVE TO TITHE?
A: We do not expect guests or visitors to contribute anything to our community financial needs.  If you WANT to give something, we won't stop you, but we feel that tithing is a responsibility of those who make Victory their home church.  Beyond that, we believe that giving is not an obligation, but an opportunity to worship God in a tangible way.  It excites us to know that the money we give is going to dozens of ministries around the world that address things like poverty, hunger, human trafficking, education, and spiritual emptiness.  Our giving paves the way for the Gospel to be shared both here in our community and around the world.

Q: WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT JESUS?  AREN'T ALL RELIGIONS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME?
A: First of all, that's a HUGE question!  We could go on and on about who Jesus is, but let's just start with a basic overview.  Jesus Christ is special because He was the union of God and humankind.  Now, before you tune out the boring theology and move on to something more interesting, take a moment to digest the idea of the God-man.  Ever since humankind chose to walk away from God, we were separated from God.  That's just simple math.  Once we walked out the door, our sin created a division.  So, the idea that God crossed all that distance by becoming human -- THAT'S MONUMENTAL!  Jesus the God-man was a giant, walking billboard, shouting out to the world that God was crossing the distance that WE CREATED.  And when He died on the Cross for us, that distance was shattered permanently.  All we have to do is put our faith in Him to receive salvation, forgiveness, and a place in God's house.

Q: DO YOU BELONG TO A DENOMINATION?
A: Victory Christian Center is in a living relationship with the Assemblies of God.  The Assemblies of God is a "FELLOWSHIP", which is slightly different than a denomination.  Essentially, it means that while we're a part of a WORLDWIDE church fellowship, we also retain our autonomy as a local congregation.  In other words, the Assemblies of God provides us with all sorts of great resources, but they don't tell us what color to paint the sanctuary.  The main thing the General Council of the Assemblies of God (Springfield, Missouri) and the Potomac District Council of the Assemblies (Gainesville, Virginia) do with Victory Christian Center is give GOOD, WISE, GODLY, COUNSEL.  These two bodies also provide oversight for the credentialing (licensing and ordaining) of men and women who feel the call to ministry and  voluntarily come under the authority of their presbytery.
   By the writing of this document, there are just over 63 million believers around the world who fellowship in Assemblies of God churches.  We're a lot smaller than that.  So, you'll fit right in.  We like to say that ours is the PERFECT church for PEOPLE who aren't!
Q: IS CHURCH STILL RELEVANT?
A: It depends on your terminology.  Back in the day, the original meaning of the Greek word for "church," simply meant a gathering of people.  If you were part of a church, it meant you belonged to a group, a family, a tribe.  You took care of each other, loved each other, and served each other.  In our book, caring, loving, and serving is still relevant.  And when God is at the center of that community, you can be sure good things are bound to happen.  They are already happening here at Victory Christian Center!  Why don't you come check it out for yourself. 

Q: WHAT DO YOU GUYS BELIEVE?
A: The short answer is that we believe God is deeply passionate about the people He created.  This passion caused Him to sacrifice EVERYTHING in order destroy the power of sin and death.  Through the ultimate sacrifice of His Son, Jesus, we are given the opportunity to be forgiven through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Q: CAN I SERVE?
A: Everyone at Victory Christian Center is encouraged to serve.  You don't have to be a talented speaker, a brilliant theologian, or a perfect person.  The important thing is that God's love motivates you to love others.

Q: ARE YOU INVOLVED IN SOCIAL JUSTICE?
A: A number of our members have served either locally or abroad, addressing issues like poverty, hunger, human trafficking, education, and poor medical care.  Just to clarify, we do not believe that merely addressing tangible needs will produce a man-made utopia.  We believe that it is only the redeeming work of Jesus Christ that has the power to change the world.  At the same time, we passionately seek to follow Jesus' example of caring for the poor, oppressed, and under-served.

Q: WHO MAKES THE RULES?
A: Rules are a tricky thing.  Usually they start out as a commonsense idea, and before you know it, somebody has legislated it, transgressed it, been incarcerated for it, and started a revolution trying to overturn it.  In the spirit of avoiding as many pointless arguments as possible, we try to use the Scripture as a guide for how we live together as a community.  We also have annual business meetings at Victory Christian Center to appoint members to serve in various roles of leadership.  The senior pastor, together with these leaders, help the church stay on track with the Scriptural model for a community.

Q: WHAT'S A "PENTECOSTAL?"
A: Pentecostalism gets it's name from the experience of Acts 2:4.  Virtually EVERY Bible-believing theologian agrees that the DAY OF PENTECOST was the day the New Testament church was born!  We are still living that history out today.  The Pentecostal experience got its start back in the early 1900's in California.  A group of Christians from diverse racial and social backgrounds began praying for a more real experience with God.  Through this movement, hundreds of other little groups began to crop up all over the world.  They identified with the simple desire to experience God in the context of real life.  Today, there are almost half a billion Christians worldwide who identify with the Pentecostal tradition.  Simply, a Pentecostal is someone who believes that God is fundamentally real, and that the Holy Spirit of God can live inside of average, ordinary people.  Pentecostals believe that the Holy Spirit gives Christians the necessary power to be a witness for Jesus Christ, and that this power is displayed through spiritual gifts.
